“Wellness is vital, even at the end of life.”

What is an End of Life Doula?
When I describe an End of Life Doula, often referred to as a Death Doula, I have the person think of a birthing doula. The birthing doula assists mothers through the birthing process. In the case of a Death Doula, an End of Life Doula assists people through the dying process. The aim of the role is to help the dying individual, and their family, accept and cope with death through the recognition that death is a natural process and an important aspect of life.
Dr. Kay Lo Jo is proud to be a certified End of Life Doula. Dr. Kay aims to change the narrative associated with death and dying, into a more widely accepted, talked about, and beautiful aspect of life. “Over the years, I’ve seen people often afraid to talk about death. It’s such a stigmatized reality, despite the fact that it’s a natural reality that we will all experience at some point. I can recall pointing toward a hearse and my Grandma grabbed my finger and said, ‘Don’t point at a hearse or your finger will fall off'! Hilarious, right?! I remember thinking, ‘Why is death so scary and stigmatized?’ After witnessing a loved one transitioning at the conclusion of her human experience, I truly realized how peaceful and beautiful the experience can be. Of course, the loss of a loved one is painful to cope with, but being prepared and equipped with strategies to make the process less scary for all, definitely helps”.
You do not have to be dying to receive End of Life Doula services. If you have a general curiosity or the idea of death and dying concerns you, please feel free to schedule services.
