It’s World Mental Health Day!

Every year on October 10, the world comes together to acknowledge the importance of mental health and collective well-being. World Mental Health Day is more than a date on a calendar, it is a reminder to pause, reflect, and recommit to creating spaces where everyone’s mental health is valued and supported. Honestly for this blog, I don’t have a single theme in mind, and that’s okay. Mental Health is not one-size-fits-all. For some, today is a day of quiet reflection. For others, it’s a time to speak out, share their story, or offer support to someone else. Wherever you find yourself, your experience is valid.

Why Does It Matter?

Mental health affects every aspect of our lives, be it our relationships, work, sense of self, and ability to thrive. Yet stigma, lack of access to care, and systemic barriers often keep people from receiving the support they deserve. Acknowledging this day is a way of saying: Mental Health Matters, and SO DO YOU!

A Special Acknowledgement

Today also comes with heavy news for many federal employees who have unexpectedly received RIF notices, on today of all days. I want to acknowledge the weight of that moment. Job loss is not just a financial hit, it can deeply impact mental health, identity, and stability. To those affected, I stand in solidarity with you. Please remember to care for your mental well-being during this difficult transition. Reaching out for support, leaning on community, and giving yourself grace are not signs of weakness, but in fact, are acts of strength.

Ways to Honor the Day

  • Check in with yourself. Take a few moments to assess how you’re really feeling.

  • Reach out to someone. A simple message or conversation can make a difference.

  • Share resources. Amplifying access to support can help somoene who needs it.

  • Rest. Sometimes honoring mental health means slowing down and giving yourself permission to breathe.

So, whether you’re thriving, struggling, or somewhere in between, today is for you! Your mental health journey is unique, and it deserves care, not just today but everyday! 💚
